The Fundamentals of Forex Trading

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

by John Eather Day-after-day, much more than 2 trillion dollars is traded in the Foreign Exchange market. Without doubt the biggest trading in the globe. Forex is open 24/5, including public vacations. The world financial centres start out trading in Sydney, and then to Tokyo, and lastly London and New York. There are buyers who are always participating and sellers at anytime, anywhere on the globe. This permits the Forex market to have the most liquidity the planet has ever recognised. Curr

Guesstimates on March 31, 2009

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

June S&P   E-mini Futures : I think today’s range will extend from 800 down to yesterday’s low near 775. I also expect the market to continue this reaction until it reaches the 750 level. Once this reaction is complete I shall be looking for a move to 900. QQQ: The 29.00 level is support and I think the Q’s are headed for 35.00.   June Bonds: I don’t think the longer term bearish picture has changed. Resistance above the market is 132-16. Next downside target is 115.   June 1

Donald Coxe – Investment Recommendations (March 2009)

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Since investment strategist Donald Coxe’s departure from BMO towards the end of last year, I have been inundated with enquiries about whether his much-revered “Basic Points” research reports would still be published. The good news is that Donald has resumed writing these reports and a new issue (subtitled “The ObamaMama Bear Market for the March 2009 edition) has just been published. Donald’s latest investment recommendations are reported in the paragraphs below, but I do recommend you also

Obama’s Attack on the Middle Class By Paul Craig Roberts

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Dandelion SaladBy Paul Craig Roberts March 30, 2009 “Information Clearing House“Obama and his public relations team have made it appear that his trillion dollars in higher taxes will fall only on “the rich.” Obama stresses that his tax increase is only for the richest 5 percent of Americans while the other 95 percent receive a tax cut.The fact of the matter is that the income differences within the top 5% are far wider than the differences between the lower tax brackets and the “rich” American i

Relative difficulty: Easy THEME: BRAE anagrams – four theme answers, all of which either begin or end with an anagram of BRAE Word of the Day: BRAE – n. Scots. A hillside; a slope. Supremely easy and, as NYT themed puzzles go, not terribly imaginative. Simple anagrams are all that are holding this puzzle together. Low theme density, anagrams neither all at beginning nor all at end of their respective phrases … not a lot to love here, except maybe “RUNNING BEAR,” which at lea

Bonds Beat Equities over a Lifetime…

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

The investment industry mantra of ’stocks for the long run’ has never looked a more empty slogan. How long is that exactly? Given recent hikes in the Equity Risk Premium, bonds have now outperformed on a reinvestment basis since 1968 , so a 21 year old beginning his career 41 years ago and seeking a passive buy and hold pension strategy would have been well served by ignoring stocks completely as shown in the chart below (survivor bias in equity indices being a bigger issue than for bonds m

March 2009 – Net Worth Update and Personal Finance Status

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

March 2009 has turned out to be a pretty routine month for me. As I’m currently traveling overseas for an extended period of time and won’t be returning home to the U.S. for several months, I haven’t had much time to really closely follow the progression of my financial portfolio. However, even while away, I still find time to occasionally glance at my net worth balances periodically to make sure everything is okay. So far, all basic metrics, bank balances, and credit reports indicate that I

OCZ DIY Netbook: A Build-a-Bear for the Basement-Dwelling Crowd

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Netbooks are everywhere, and yours just doesn’t have the nerd cachet it used to. If this really bothers you, you may want to consider building your own netbook, like the OCZ Neutrino . On paper, the Neutrino is like virtually every other 10-incher on the market, with a 1.6GHz Atom, Intel integrated graphics, 1.3MP webcam, standard port set and b/g Wi-Fi. The rest—that is, memory, HDD/SDD, and a card reader—is up to you. It could be a fun project for the hands-on type, and will additionally

Auto industry in limbo

Monday, March 30th, 2009

President Obama announced this morning that his administration is withholding further federal aid from General Motors and Chrysler until they can prove that they can continue to exist as viable businesses on their own. He said the companies have not yet done enough to demonstrate that they will be able to do that. At the same time, he assured the American people that the automobile industry in the United States will not be allowed to just fade away. He also announced that the federal government
